Humans have become increasingly dependent on the internet which has led to the demand for Ethernet and consequently the Ethernet Splitter. For the technologically-crippled individuals, Ethernet may sound strange, almost like a second language; therefore, it is imperative that it is made clear what Ethernet really is.

Ethernet is a telecommunications protocol that was introduced by Xerox Corporation in 1979. It was developed to fill the gap in the transmission of information. It was also developed as an inexpensive way to send information quickly from one office machine to another once they are connected in a single room or building. Ethernet refers to a set of techniques that is used by many hosts to transmit data over the internet by way of a Local Area Network (LAN). Eventually, this invention rapidly became the standard method of computer interconnection. Originally, the data transfer rate was 10 megabits per second. This has been increased to 100 megabits per second for a new standard known as fast Ethernet. The wires used in the installation of an Ethernet splitter are similar to that of a telephone jack wire; the only difference is that they are much bigger.

Ethernet has become the most popular method of connecting computers. Over the years, it has gained so much popularity that it is readily available on the market at reasonable costs. Ethernet LAN cards are now available with speeds up to 100 megabits per second. The fastest Ethernet available is equipped with gigabits per second speed.

Due to the popularity and demand for Ethernet, the Ethernet splitter has evolved. As the name applies, “Ethernet Splitter” has to do with Ethernet and splitting. If you thought so, you are absolutely correct! In modern times, home networks are becoming increasingly popular. Almost every home has a personal network these days. This is why the need for the Ethernet splitter has arisen.

A splitter is a device that is used to distribute a signal into two or more paths so that it can be retrieved and used by multiple users at the same time. However, note that the resulting split will cause the signal to weaken. By installing an Ethernet splitter on two or more computers, the users will be able to use the internet at the same time. This device has become so popular and so demanded that some people even make their own.

Obtaining an Ethernet splitter is quite easy especially since it has become so well known. You are certain to find one available at your local computer supplies store. There are advantages to using the Ethernet splitter to share the internet on more than one computer. One such advantage is that it is much cheaper to use an Ethernet splitter than to have more than one Ethernet cable installed for each computer. Another advantage is that the hassle created by installing more than one cable is greatly reduced by using a splitter. It is also inexpensive compared to the benefits that it provides.
